History of Keep Kingsland Beautiful
Keep Kingsland Beautiful (KKB) was founded in early 2012 as a Texas nonprofit corporation and received federal 501(c)(3) status as a charitable, tax-exempt organization in October 2012. KKB is separate from – but shares a mission with – the Kingsland Area Community Service Group (KACSG). The service group was formed in late 2011, following a surge in local civic engagement related to a ballot initiative to incorporate Kingsland. Although the initiative was defeated, a group of interested citizens vowed to undertake the community clean-up that was one of the incorporation objectives.
The all-volunteer, informally organized Kingsland Area Community Service Group (KACSG) worked with KKB to carry out short-term, unfunded clean-up projects in the Kingsland area and coordinated efforts like the first-ever Kingsland Community-Wide Clean-Up Day on April 21, 2012. Recognizing that funding would be needed to carry out more substantial projects to beautify Kingsland, members of the KACSG decided to form a charitable nonprofit corporation, Keep Kingsland Beautiful, to seek grants and receive tax-deductible donations.
