Keep the Slab Clean
HUGE THANK YOU GOES OUT TO DAVID HOWARD
AND THE LIONS CLUB OF KINGSLAND
Updated 02/19/18
Update: For nearly five years, volunteer David Howard of Kingsland has been doing a fantastic job of keeping the slab trash free. He replaced the trailer with Progressive trash bins for pickup by Progressive at his home. Each and every weekend David takes and retrieves the bins.
Following his surgery in June of 2015, a neighbor helped haul the filled bins for pickup until his an annual trip to Germany each summer. In preparation for his departure, David visited the Progressive office in Johnson City and arranged for their trucks to empty the bins at the Slab rather than his home and added the cost for additional bins to his home account.
The system is working well...with the exception of the litter along the roadways; however, due to the uneven ground, David was not able to clean the roadway or river front alone. He then asked the Lions Club for assistance during his rehab, and one or more Lions Club members have assisted with litter pickup. The Lions Club volunteers have continued their pickup detail and even offered to help with the cost to Progressive.
The number of cans has been increased to four and the public has responded better at placing their trash into the bins.

Original post: Beginning in summer 2012, Keep Kingsland Beautiful (KKB) and the Kingsland Area Community Service Group teamed up to clean up the Slab. Each weekend during the warm months, when many people come to enjoy this popular recreational spot in northwest Kingsland near the intersection of FM 3404 and CR320 (River Oaks Drive), KKB volunteers park a small, donated trailer to serve as a trash receptacle. Trash bags are also provided. After each weekend, volunteers return to remove the trailer and dispose of the trash. A huge thank you goes out to Ron Wilson who donated $300 out of his own pocket to help with the dumpster expense.
